About
Kat Groshong is an award-winning writer and an award-winning graphic designer. She is married to B the Rock Star, and together they have two kids, the Girl and Monkey Boy. They all live in an old white house on a corner in a town in Southern Michigan. There are three tomcats that live there as well who demand that the food bowl is filled to the top at all times. There are swift and dire consequences when that fails to occur.
Kat is a graduate of Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and says she (almost) always wanted to be a writer. She got her first computer in college and started her first blog in the late 1990s. Any evidence of her early blogs are long gone, thankgoodness, but she continued to write detailed and amusing email updates to her friends and family until she started her (Mostly) True Confessions blog in 2008, just about the same time she abandoned her MySpace page and joined Facebook.
Just like her first book, her blogs center around everyday life and were often sporadic during the toddler years when she worked from home and Monkey Boy was her assistant. It wasn't easy, she says, because Monkey Boy was not a good administrative assistant: he wrote illegibly, crowded the workspace with action figures, took too many breaks, and downloaded random games on her cell phone. On the upside, he could be paid in Cheerios. As a result, she still has a backlog of blogs to post.

We have but one hard and fast shopping rule: if you don’t love it, you don’t buy it. There are exceptions such as socks and undergarments that are more for necessity and comfort than fashion. Shoes, however, land somewhere on the fence between the two. We must wear shoes. We are not Hobbits, after all. But what woman among us has not fallen so madly in love with a pair of shoes that she would forgo eating for an entire month just to have that pair?

Kat GroshongI sighed. I put the laundry down and walked to an open space. I wanted to show the Girl how to do a cartwheel. I loved doing cartwheels, but the last time I did one, I think it was the summer before I got married, I pulled a muscle in my leg. The time before that, I broke my glasses. And the time before that, my shirt and skirt flew up, and I flashed everyone in the neighborhood. And I was in my 20s.
Kat GroshongEach child floated by smiling and waving to his or her proud and creative parents. There was a shark, a dolphin, a couple mermaids, a lobster, a couple sea turtles, a squid, an octopus, two Finding Nemo clownfish complete with hats, and then there was my boy, definitely the second born, last in line, wearing his undersized jeans and T-shirt. He strutted by me, flashed the “I Love You” sign, and then whispered, “I’m a fish!”
Kat GroshongBut that Friday night, as sanity would have it, a babysitter arrived at our house and B whisked me out the door. Earlier in the day, at the apex of months of Monkey Boy’s orneriness, and in the middle of a near temper tantrum—mine, not his—I started texting babysitters. Within the hour I had one, and then a few minutes later, B called me from work at which time I informed him he would be taking me out that night, away from the children. He giggled and asked, "Where are we going."
